Our guests for this Node Talk and Q & A are Julia Latané and George Luna-Peña, who are behind the Diversity Apprenticeship Program (DAP) at The Broad, a museum in L.A.. The DAP is an apprenticeship program that supports people from underrepresented communities* to gain experience and expertise in art handling. From their experiences, our guest speakers will share the benefits of working with a diverse art handling team and the challenges that underrepresented groups still face in the museum profession.

“In 2015, the Mellon Foundation funded a survey that for the first time quantified how white art museums in the US are, and I think it frankly horrified many organizations into action. It was launched at the same time as the Mellon Curatorial Fellowships, which is an important program for increasing representation of communities of color in curatorial departments. It was a large part of what prompted me to author The Broad Diversity Apprenticeship Program (DAP) in 2017.” Julia Latané
