The following Node Talk was recorded live on zoom on May 14, 2020:

In times of social distancing, how might we make socially engaged art? In this one hour conversation and Q&A, conceptual artist Stine Marie Jacobsen will explore this question and discuss how collective intelligence can help us cope with the future to come, as well as the importance of ‘thinking’ rather than ‘thanking’:

“A 7 year old boy who participated in one of my art projects once wrote “Think you very much” to me. I loved how his typo of “thank you” became a “think you”, because I much rather wanted him to think than thank. We can’t afford any disconnects these days and “thank you's” can so easily become a hierarchy. Yes, yes it’s polite, nice and all that, but it’s much better to think, quarrel and disagree with someone now. To feel each other’s despair. Because now we really need unambiguous signals of mutual trust and burden-sharing.” Stine Marie Jacobsen

Stine creates open structured sociocultural and participatory projects like 'Direct Approach', an anti-violence project that starts with conversations about violent scenes in popular films as well as ‘Law Shifters’, a law writing project in which participants are asked to rejudge old court cases and to write their own laws and 'Group-Think, a training programme which integrates ideas on collective intelligence and protest training methods into sports education in schools.
